The Genius of Photography

How Photography Has Changed Our Lives

(BBC, London, 2006)

This two-disk set of DVDs was originally aired by the BBC channel, and claims that photography is "the most influential art form in the world." It traces the history of photography from it's humble beginnings and includes interviews with great photographers and commentary by art critics and other experts. I'm not so sure that (still) photography is more influential than cinema and video, but this story is well-done: enjoyable and educational. Currently only available in Region 2 protected PAL format (for European video monitors, or you need an international multi-format DVD player), you can order it from Amazon.co.uk
